National Roofing Contractors Assocation

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) is one of the construction industry's most respected trade associations and the voice and leading authority in the roofing industry for information, education, technology and advocacy. Founded in 1886, NRCA is a nonprofit association that represents all segments of the roofing industry, including contractors; manufacturers; distributors; architects; consultants; engineers; building owners; and city, state and government agencies. NRCA's mission is to inform and assist the roofing industry, act as its principal advocate and help members in serving their customers. NRCA continually strives to enhance every aspect of the roofing industry.

Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing

The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization whose mission is to promote the development and use of environmentally responsible, high performance roof systems and technologies. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the center serves as a forum to draw together the entire roofing industry to the common cause of raising public awareness of the strategic value of our nation's roofs in reducing energy consumption, mitigating environmental impact and enhancing the quality of the buildings in which we live and work.

Solar Energy International

Solar Energy International (SEI) is one of the oldest renewable energy training organizations in the country. Founded in 1991, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization focused solely on renewable energy, its mission is to provide quality training to advance the renewable energy industry. SEI has provided training to more than 20,000 tradespeople through online, in-person and intensive hands-on trainings.

Penn State University

In 2010, the RISE board of directors recognized the need to provide support resources for prospective applicants pursuing the CSRP credential. They also knew that for many years NRCA had a mutually supportive relationship the Penn State University's (PSU's) Center for Sustainability. PSU also recently established the Northern Mid-Atlantic Solar Education and Resource Center (NMASERC) regional training provider for the Department of Energy's Solar Instructor Network (SITN). RISE staff approached PSU in 2011 and commissioned them to develop a CSRP study guide. This study guide provides information about each of the 79 competencies represented in the CSRP job task analysis document and is available free of charge here.
Simultaneously, NRCA staff worked directly with PSU to develop an online education program titled "Rooftop Photovoltaic System Installations." This interactive course provides detailed information about each of the five topical domains presented in the CSRP job task analysis, including:

  • Planning and Implementing Safety Requirements
  • Identifying Structural, Roof Assembly and PV System Design Issues
  • Applying Basic Electrical System Principles and Practices
  • Estimating, Contracting and Selling a Roof-mounted PV System
  • Managing and Directing Roof-mounted PV System Installations
